The pet groomer works in the bathing and grooming areas, handles pets and reports directly to the store manager.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
POSITION DUTIES: The pet groomer is responsible to bathe and/or groom pets in a safe and humane manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of each pet. He/she follows written and verbal instructions about usage of specific shampoos, conditioners and other supplies and, when doing bathing work, (i) combing and brushing to remove tangles and knots, (ii) canine anal sac expulsion and (iii) the use of towels and drying equipment to fluff and straighten the pet's coat. The pet groomer inspects the condition of each pet's skin and coat for external parasites, sores, cuts, or any condition requiring special treatment. He/she reports any suspect health conditions, or behavior problems, to the store manager. This job is composed of a variety of different tasks that are covered by operational guidelines. While individual judgment may occasionally be required to complete assigned tasks, most questions are directed to the store manager.
Essential Job Functions: The pet groomer must be able to consistently perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
The pet groomer is responsible for the proper use and cleaning of tools and equipment and the cleanliness of the work area. For the health and safety of the pets groomed by the pet groomer, the pet groomer must clean/sanitize clipper blades after each usage and must not use blades that have missing or broken teeth.
All tools and equipment necessary to the performance of the pet groomer’s duties/job are provided and maintained by the Company . The pet groomer must properly use tools, equipment and supplies including the following:
If the pet groomer chooses, of his/her own free will, to use tools and/or equipment owned by the pet groomer, then the pet groomer is responsible for the proper use, maintenance and repair of equipment and tools owned by the pet groomer . The pet groomer must keep his/her equipment in good working order which includes regular blade and scissor sharpening.
Additional duties may be assigned to the pet groomer as needed, which include, but are not limited to front counter duties such as making appointments, phone answering, handling payments and record keeping.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION: General instruction is provided on some ‚ but not all, tasks to be performed and work is occasionally checked upon completion. There is an occasional opportunity in this position to make mistakes which could cause minor delays or expense to the store.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: May provide guidance to pet bathers, pet bather/finishers, pet finishers and/or pet groomers in training. May also help test potential applicants for grooming procedures and evaluate skills and other job related tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of the pet groomer’s time will be spent in direct contact with customers and their pets and the remaining time will be spent with other store employees. The work environment can be noisy and wet.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A qualified applicant to this position will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the grooming industry and preferably have either a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED). In addition, the applicant must have completed the a acceptable apprentice/training program or a minimum of one year's experience grooming/styling pets under the leadership of a professional groomer and must successfully complete a personal skills evaluation.

- Smile at, greet and thank each customer and safely greet each dog and cat.
- Ensure that each pet in the store’s care receives the highest quality care and that kennels, when used to house pets, are clean, safe and properly secured.

- Help ensure standards are maintained.

- Professionally perform basic pet grooming services, including finishing services and separately priced services, on animals as requested by customers and in accordance with company policy and procedure, ensuring the safety and well-being of each animal.
- Perform bath and brush/haircut services for at least six pets per day.
- Demonstrate an interest in animal welfare.
- Move animals and merchandise up to 50 pounds.
- Utilize grooming instruments including clippers, shears and drying equipment.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
